In this edition of IMPORTANTVILLE, scroll down for details on why Democratic Senate candidate Tom McDermott Jr. is 123 days late on his financial disclosure, what Democratic donors are saying about a controversial effort to oust Marion County Democratic Party Chair Kate Sweeney Bell, and the secret history of Pizza King, the Hoosier institution.
The Conservative Political Action Conference unveiled the speaker list for its annual confab this weekend in Florida, and two Hoosier Republicans made the lineup. Former Vice President Mike Pence is not one of them—even though the event is a must-attend for 2024 GOP candidates.
Rep. Jim Banks and Sen. Mike Braun will both appear at the event. Banks will appear alongside Rep. Madison Cawthorn of North Carolina, former Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker, and others at a Friday panel called “Fighters on the Front Line.” On Thursday, Braun will headline a panel called “Obamacare Still Kills.”
Pence, though, is not listed as a speaker. “We did not officially invite him but in our last conversation over a year ago, I told the Vice President that we would welcome him and he should call us when he is ready to come back,” Matt Schlapp, the chair of the American Conservative Union and host of the event, told Politico earlier this month.
