Scoop: NRA calls Indy Republican mayoral candidate's public safety proposals on firearms "truly pathetic."
Jefferson Shreve—the Republican Indianapolis mayoral challenger to Democrat Joe Hogsett—tacked leftward on firearm restrictions Thursday, calling in his public safety plan for an increase in the legal age to buy a firearm in Marion County from 18 to 21, a repeal of permitless carry and banning assault-style rifles in the city.
The move—telegraphed to IMPORTANTVILLE by Shreve in an interview months ago—left the conservative wing of his party in a funereal mood, with one Second Amendment advocate calling his candidacy “dead on arrival” and another conservative radio personality saying he “lost the election today.”
