Shreve's reprieve
Indy GOP mayoral candidate won't rollout public safety plan until "shortly after Independence Day," his campaign says.
Jefferson Shreve is running as the candidate who can quell violence and restore peace in what he describes as the chaotic streets of Indianapolis.
The Republican mayoral candidate issued a statement Sunday after a spate of violence struck the city this weekend, leaving four kids among the 23 shot. And he frequently assails Democratic Mayor Joe Hogsett for acting as his own public safety director, saying in a statement that “no one is accountable across all the agencies of city government for our public safety—except Joe Hogsett.”
“I share in the mayor’s grief over these lost lives, but how much more violence does Mayor Hogsett need to witness before taking action?” Shreve said in a Sunday statement. “In response to the violent weekend, Hogsett tweeted a statement saying he ‘shares in the anger of our community.’ That is not enough. I urge the mayor to be more than just angry – I urge him to act.
But if you want to know how Shreve himself would act as mayor, you’re going to have to wait, according to a campaign spokeswoman.
